The collection draws from traditional Chinese architecture and explores themes of gathering and daily rituals. Temple's "Courtyard" is inspired by traditional "Siheyuan" courtyards from Tang dynasty China.Siheyuan courtyards were designed with the concept of family and gathering in mind; a shared space within the residence that had walls of the family homes on all four sides. The coffee table's design is symbolic of this concept in both its design and spatial context.The square centrepiece in the tabletop is representative of the courtyard, while also serving a functional purpose of providing hidden storage within.The coffee table itself is symbolic of the ideology behind the courtyard; much like how the courtyard is the shared communal space within the Beijing residence, the coffee table is typically the centrepiece of the living room, the communal area of an interior space.Have friends over and sit around the table. Watch a film and store the remote out of sight. Make your morning matcha and keep your equipment within. Kick your feet up after a long day. "Courtyard" is designed to hold space for the gatherings, and daily rituals of your life.
